Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is mounted 10 feet high. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by making field goals (shooting the ball from anywhere on the court) or free throws (unopposed shots from the free-throw line). Basketball emphasizes skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense, and it requires teamwork and strategy to outscore the opponent. It is governed by specific rules that dictate gameplay, including violations like traveling and fouling. Originating in the late 19th century, basketball has grown into one of the most popular sports worldwide, featuring professional leagues, college competitions, and international tournaments.
